Our story

Limnetic Optical Solutions began with our founder, Jessica's, PhD research in Pinery Provincial Park, where she studied threatened and endangered freshwater fishes and their responses to changing underwater conditions. That research revealed the potential of underwater cameras to observe fish in their natural habitat—without capturing or disturbing them. Today, Limnetic is turning that idea into accessible AI-powered underwater cameras traps that can help researchers, conservationists, and communities monitor aquatic biodiversity efficiently and non-invasively.

Our cameras

We're developing underwater camera systems for long-term aquatic biodiversity monitoring. The cameras combine high-resolution imaging and edge-based computer vision to detect fish in situ. AI models process video directly on the camera, allowing systems to selectively record relevant observations while reducing data storage and processing requirements. The resulting time-stamped detections can then be used to quantify species presence, relative abundance, habitat use, and temporal patterns in fish communities.
